Brothers and
sisters,
1. Al-Syahid Imam Hassan al-Banna in Majmuah
al-Rasa'il said that sacrifice means contributing the soul, wealth, time,
life and everything in order to achieve the goal. In this world, there is no
struggle (jihad) that does not require sacrifice.
2. All sacrifices will not be wasted; on
the contrary, they will be awarded with a larger reward. Allah says in Surah
al-Taubah verse 111,
إِنَّ اللَّهَ
اشْتَرَى مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ
الْجَنَّةَ
“Indeed, Allah has purchased from the
believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will
have Paradise...”
Allah says in surah al-Taubah ayat 24,
قُلْ إِنْ كَانَ آبَاؤُكُمْ وَأَبْنَاؤُكُمْ
وَإِخْوَانُكُمْ وَأَزْوَاجُكُمْ وَعَشِيرَتُكُمْ وَأَمْوَالٌ اقْتَرَفْتُمُوهَا
وَتِجَارَةٌ تَخْشَوْنَ كَسَادَهَا وَمَسَاكِنُ تَرْضَوْنَهَا أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكُمْ
مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَجِهَادٍ فِي سَبِيلِهِ فَتَرَبَّصُوا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ
اللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِ وَاللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْفَاسِقِينَ
“Say, [O Muhammad],
"If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives,
wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and
dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His
Messenger and jihad in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command.
And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.”
Allah says in surah al-Fath ayat 16,
فَإِنْ تُطِيعُوا يُؤْتِكُمُ اللَّهُ أَجْرًا حَسَنًا
“So
if you obey, Allah will give you a good reward (in life and hereafter)...”

When once there was a clash between the love of his own child and devotion to
God, Abraham, peace be upon him, took it in his stride to put God’s orders
above everything else. Likewise, Prophet Ismail, peace be upon him, sacrificed
the nature of his love towards his father and mother purely for the sake of
Allah the Almighty’s command. As a result, both received praise from Allah and
awarded various favors.
4. For Muslim
students, the act of sacrifice demands time, money, body, soul, the strain of
thoughts, feelings, and also at the expense of one’s own self-interest in order
to acquire knowledge and the love of Allah. USIM is built for the purpose of
producing Muslims who are Muttaqin (pious) and Muthaqqafin (knowledgeable)
which will determine the pattern of Malaysia's future leadership. Therefore,
the responsibility is being shouldered by us all.
5. On
behalf of USIM Students’ Representative Council (2012/2013), I would like to
wish Happy Eid Al-Adha to everyone. May the Eid Al-Adha this time can help us
be better and more accomplished in practicing Islam. God willing.
